Intro
Before diving in, I want to disclose my review process for this book, and all other RPGs. I will approach reviews in three phases. Each phase could be done at a different time – days, weeks, or months apart.
Reviews Phases
Surface Level: This phase involves a quick look at the book, including my initial impression, overall quality, and assessment of the layout and illustrations.
Cover to Cover: This phase focuses on a detailed analysis of the RPG itself – the rules, game mechanics, complexity, character options, settings, and lore. Essentially, I'll assess how the game is theoretically intended to play.
Play Test: This is my final phase, where I’ll share my thoughts after playing the game. I’ll outline what I enjoyed, what I disliked, who the game is best suited for, and whether I would recommend it.
What doing it like this?
One of the reasons I want to conduct reviews is to better understand my own taste and preferences. By taking my time and carefully examining each game, I believe I can make more informed decisions.
I also want to determine if my initial impressions of a game are accurate. Building a “review history” will be valuable in this regard. I am purchasing a significant number of books (both physical and digital), more than I can realistically read. Starting reviews will hopefully help me become more intentional with my purchases.
My plan is to review every book I have ever purchased and begin those reviews before buying another one (this will be challenging, but I want to try). While I may not be able to play all of them, there’s a good chance I'll be able to complete the first two phases—at least.
Let me know what you think, cheers!
