Welp, I know what I'm doing instead of working today.

Great idea, I must look at doing something like this myself to track the ever growing piles of books 👍

Very interesting setup, I already use Obsidian too but not to this extent.

Thank you, I'll soon create a vault example for those who want to try it

Great, then I don’t have to go through the trouble of finding out for myself!

I have a similar system in obsidian but it's just a table. Taking this as my sign to convert it to a base 😅

Bases are awesome, definitely worth exploring

I love this! I use notion a similar purpose, logging everything in this way is so satisfying for me

I love this idea. I want to do the same with all my writing craft books (and also TTRPG rulebooks 😉). I use Notion but the concept should be easily transferable

Thank you, and yes it should. Obsidian can be as complicated as you want it to be, if you need it to be. Give it a try, let me me if you like it 😀

I'm a bit lost on something, maybe you can help me.

I've created a Base for Games. I don't understand how to basically click "+ New" and get a new note _with_ all the properties that I have listed in the Base.

I can make it work in the table view where I'm looking at all the properties, but if I hide some of them, those properties aren't included when I click +New, meaning if I have a card view that is just the cover image, my new note has none of the properties I want.

Am I thinking about this wrong?

Hey, so yes, I think using the "+" will only add to the new open file the property enabled from where you have clicked the "+" icon.

1. So you could potentially create your news files from the "all games view" with all needed properties on, that way, when you click on the "+" icon, those will be populated by default.

2. You could also have a "demo" file that you duplicate and then edit.

3. This is what I do (maybe a bit more setup), but I have created a template file, which includes all the properties I need (only the category and subcategory are already filled). Then I have assigned a shortcut "cmd + n", which opens a prompt to choose a template from which it creates a new file. All new files created that way are saved in my "notes" folder. But because I created a new file from my game template, it is captured by my view.

For option 3, you'll need to:

- Create a template folder, where to store your template files.

- Install a community plugin named "templater"

- give it the templates location

- Use the "trigger templater on new file creation option"

Ah, Option 3 was definitely what I needed! So so useful, thank you!
